Open Source Political Environment: NavNirman Yuva Dal launched
Well, today I am writing as a representative of “NavNirman Yuva Dal”. Just to satisfy your curiosity about what NavNirman Yuva Dal could be, I introduce it to you as a Political NGO. It is also a political party in the making!!!! The party website www.navnirmanyuvadal.org has already been launched. And guess what, I am the one who made most of the site; Of course with the help, support and vision of my seniors. The website is made in Drupal6. Although Drupal is often described as a "content management system" (CMS) it is also a "content management framework". In other words, unlike a typical CMS, it is geared more towards configurability and customization. But the community support at drupal.org is great. Initially it was tough to finalize the features of such a site. But once we started, things just begun to take shape rapidly. The features were shortlisted, layouts were done, and I was all set to make the dream into reality. Playing with and implementing various modules was real fun until it gave the right results....Hahaha. After the implementation of all modules, I could see the blueprint of what would be my Dream project. It was a lovely feeling to see your dream take shape. It had all features I wanted to include in it. To mention a few, it has features such as: * Blogging(my personal favourite!!!)/Forums/Articles posting * Paypal Donation facility * Image/Video Galleries * Newsletter subscription facility * Petition signing * and ya, Join the Party form can also be filed and submitted * It also has updates about events at NNYD and in the world. Then came the real twist.... We decided to make the code of the website Open Source. Now, the code for the website is available on Github- http://github.com/gloscon/nnyd/tree/master. GitHub is a web-based hosting service for projects that use the Git revision control system. The site provides social networking functionality like feeds, followers and the network graph to display how developers work on their versions of a repository. We were more than happy and proud to be a part of the Github "Social Coding" family. The most exciting thing about this concept is that now since it is open source, anybody can take the code from http://github.com/gloscon/nnyd/tree/master, and make a website of their own. Of course, their websites will have all features of my website, but they can also implement features of their own. They can enhance its functionalities, may change layouts, implement other themes, put in various other exciting features. So this code can be a foundation to revolutionary ideas. What more should I wish for? Just that this endeavor is accepted and it reaches new heights. Please visit the site. And Yeah, it will be great if you can create a site of your own using its code. Lastly, my voluntary answer to Why did we create all this..... Most politicians have not done much for the country. The majority of the people sit outside and criticize the government. But if one wants to change the system, one has to be a part of the system. With this, our dream to give power to people to share, express and bring Change has turned into reality."Open Sourcing NavNirman Yuva Dal"is a step to make NavNirman Yuva Dal "For the People, Of the People And By the People" in real sense.
